Name for a character
Names for elves, dwarves, orcs, humans, halflings and dragons - built to sound right.
Runs locally in your browser. Nothing you generate is ever sent to a server.
Press "Generate" for a name.
Race
Choose a race and press Generate. Names are built syllable by syllable from a set chosen to fit that race, which is why an elf name flows and an orc name lands like a dropped rock. Nothing is copied from an existing book or game, so anything you generate is yours to use.
The difference is in the sounds, not just the spelling. Elf syllables lean on soft consonants and long vowels - Ael, Lyr, riel, wen. Dwarf names use hard stops and short vowels - Thra, Kaz, grim, din. Orc names are blunter still, halfling names end in homely words like foot and wise, and dragon names reach for sharp endings like rax and thax. Pick a race and every result stays inside that sound world.
Switch on two-part names when a character needs more than a single word - a noble house, a clan, a family. The second name is built from the same syllable set, so it sits naturally beside the first instead of sounding borrowed from another culture.
Raise the quantity and one press gives a full cast with no repeats. This is the fastest way to name a role-playing party, a village of non-player characters, or a list of names to pick from later. Copy All puts them on your clipboard, one per line.
Each name picks a beginning, sometimes a middle, and an ending from the syllable set for that race, using your browser's cryptographic random source. Values falling outside a clean multiple of the list size are discarded and redrawn, so no syllable is favoured. The combinations run to hundreds of thousands per race, which is why the same name rarely comes back twice.
Choose a race and press Generate. A name is built from syllables that suit that race, so it sounds like it belongs rather than being a random string of letters.
Elf, dwarf, orc, human, halfling and dragon. Each has its own syllable set, so elf names come out flowing and orc names come out blunt.
Yes. Switch on two-part names and each result comes back as a given name followed by a second name.
Yes. Raise the quantity to draw up to 30 names in one press, then Copy All to take the list.
They are built fresh each time from syllables, so the pool runs to hundreds of thousands of combinations per race. Repeats within one batch are removed.
Yes. The names are generated from syllables rather than copied from any book or game, so there is nothing to license.
