The filter follows the standard groupings: alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, transition metals, post-transition metals, metalloids, nonmetals, halogens, noble gases, lanthanides and actinides. Narrowing the pool before the draw is what makes this useful for revision on a specific block rather than the whole table at once.
Draw an element and say its symbol, atomic number and group out loud before reading the line underneath. This tool follows the most common convention, but the disagreement is worth knowing about rather than being surprised by in an exam.
The list is filtered to the group you chose, then an element is drawn using your browser's cryptographic random source with rejection sampling, so no element is favoured. Batches without repeats use a Fisher-Yates shuffle driven by the same source.
